10 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2010

10 For 2010 looks forward to some of the most anticipated and least anticipated things in the music world over the upcoming 12 months.

Each fortnight a new article will be posted in the series, right up until the turn of the year.

Today continues with the 10 most anticipated albums of 2010. Featuring some great bands which have been around years and some upcoming new bands who are causing quite a buzz in the indie music world.

Vampire Weekend – ‘Contra’

Vampire Weekend - 'Contra'

After the buzz surrounding ‘Horchata’, Vampire Weekend’s sophomore LP ‘Conta’ has quickly become one of the most anticipated albums of early 2010.

With ‘Cousins’ also being aired within the past couple of days here’s hoping the whole album doesn’t end up being leaked before it’s release date.

Release Date – January 11th UK / January 12th US

Foals – ‘TBA’

Foals

Foals have been working hard in Sweden on the follow up to their extremely underrated debut album ‘Antidotes’. They’re currently back in the UK putting the final touches to the album, which is as yet untitled.

‘Antidotes’ was one of my most listened to albums of 2008 and features one of my favourite tracks ever in the form of ‘Red Socks Pugie’, a classic.

Release Date – Unannounced

MGMT – ‘Congratulations’

MGMT

Tracks from ‘Oracular Spectacular’ were everywhere in 2008, two years later there is much anticipation surrounding the new MGMT album ‘Congratulations’.

It’ll be interesting to see which direction VanWyngarden and Goldwasser take with this LP.

With influences in the studio coming from the likes of Pete Kember of psychedelic rock band Spacemen 3 and Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux it’s a tough one to call. ‘Congratulations’ could be the making or breaking of MGMT.

Release Date – Spring

Arcade Fire – ‘TBA’

Arcade Fire

It’s been everywhere recently that these guys are back in the studio recording their follow up to 2007′s ‘Neon Bible’.

Other than that not a great deal is known about the bands third studio album. With two great albums under their belt, in the form of ‘Funeral’ and ‘Neon Bible’, hopefully they will be able to continue in a similar vein and offer some great new material in 2010.

Release Date – Unannounced

Hot Chip – ‘One Life Stand’

Hot Chip

‘One Life Stand’ has recently been announced by the band and is due for release early February. This will be followed by a tour of the UK starting February 10th and a US tour alongside The xx later in the year.

I previewed a track from the album titled ‘Take It In’ just last week here at Indiescreet.

Release Date – February 8th (UK) / February 9th (US)

Klaxons – ‘TBA’

Klaxons

Klaxons second album has now been in the works since late 2007. After pretty much finishing the record the guys were told by their record label earlier this year that the album was ‘too experimental’ meaning it was back to the drawing board. A shame as I would have loved to of heard what the band had produced.

Hopefully Jamie Reynolds and co are now pretty close to completion and will be able to offer up an album as good as Mercury Prize winner ‘Myths of the Near Future’.

Expect to hopefully hear more details soon. There’s a timer on the bands website and although it’s counting up it must mean something.

Release Date – Unannounced

Lightspeed Champion – ‘Life is Sweet! Nice To Meet You’

Lightspeed Champion

Dev Hynes AKA Lighspeed Champion is back with the follow up to his brilliant debut album ‘Falling Off The Lavender Bridge’, an album which managed to find quite the soft spot in my heart.

This does not seem like it will be changing any time soon, check out this sneak peak of the video to the forthcoming single ‘Marlene’ which will be featured on the album.

Release Date – February 1st

Two Door Cinema Club – ‘TBA’

Two Door Cinema Club

One of my favourite bands of 2009, Two Door Cinema Club have been teasing us with some great tracks in the build up to their much anticipated debut album.

The band have really taken their time with the LP, hopefully it will be worth the wait. ‘I Can Talk’ proves that ‘Something Good Can Work’ was no fluke.

These guys are the only band on the list who haven’t already released at least one album, which just shows how much I’m looking forward to the bands debut LP.

Release Date – February

Los Campesinos! – ‘Romance Is Boring’

LC!

With material from the album already previewed here and here I’m already very excited to hear the rest of the album from the Welsh 7 piece.

After such a busy couple of years with album releases and tour dates will the band have come together enough to record an album which lives up to the hype? I guess only time will tell.

Release Date – February 1st

LCD Soundsystem – ‘TBA’

LCD Soundsystem

With the recently released cover of Alan Vega’s ‘Bye Bye Bayou’ proving quite the hit speculation has once again risen about LCD Soundsystem’s upcoming new album.

Apparently Murphy and co have been recording in LA over the summer and the album is set for release in 2010.

Again not a great deal is known so far about the album, other than the fact if previous material is anything to go by it’s set to be amazing.

Release Date – Unannounced

There we have my 10 most anticipated albums of 2010. Obviously thats only my opinion and not a definitive list.

    What about the good shoes!!!

  • http://www.indiescreet.com Chris

To be honest it’d been that long since I’d heard anything from those guys that I’d kind of forgotten them.

Then bam! They hit me with ‘Under Control’, unfortunately I’d already written this post by then.

  • nessa nicole

im so happy for mgmt’s new album :D

  • Jack Braunstein

That was a bold move leaving out both Spoon and Yeasayer. I wouldnt advise walking down Stereogum or Pitchfork Street alone anytime soon, for fear of a stabbing incident.

Ooh, what about Ted Leo? It’s due out early next year.
