in Review Of The Week

This week’s review of the week features some great links to share with your friends.

Pretty Much Amazing gave a respective review of Animal Collectives latest album in a feature aptly titled Blinded By The Hype?

“Welcome back to Blinded By The Hype, the newly inaugurated PMA feature in which we revisit some of our top reviewed albums once the hype has died down.”

“Well, what a little pickle I find myself in here, with this here feature. See here’s the thing – if the general reaction to Merriweather Post Pavilion was tough to sort through at its release, it’s nigh on impossible now. On the one hand, some have dismissed it as a product of the hype cycle. They see it as overrated experimental crap, fuzzy for the sake of being fuzzy and shrieky for the sake of being shrieky. Others, however, hold the album up as the savior of indie rock – the initial rallying cry of a year that has seen the release of some of the most inventive records that have come upon the scene in years.”

Imageyenation posted a link to a trailer for the upcoming animated film The Fantastic Mr. Fox

“The filmmaker behind some of my favorite films of the modern era (‘Rushmore,’ ‘The Royal Tenenbaums,’ ‘The Life Aquatic,’ ‘The Darjeeling Limited’) adapts Roald Dahl’s 1970 children’s novel ‘The Fantastic Mr. Fox.’”

Check out the awesome trailer below.

Obscure Sound posted detailed review on a band causing quite a stir lately

“The XX playfully list their influences in regard to opposite spectrums, commercial success and cult success.

It is not so much dependent on style, but instead how similar approaches can end up differing dramatically based on the pressures of derivative automation.

They like everything from Aaliyah to CocoRosie, Rihanna to The Cure, and Missy Elliott to Chromatics. Some sharp contrasts, sure, but their message is clear in describing their influences this way.

This London-based quartet is the antithesis of independent elitism, showing both their adoration for mainstream pop music and independent stylistic mash-ups with a sound that contains the commercially receptive allure of acts like Rihanna and Aaliyah but without the repetitive, industrialized facades that tarnish their images.”

Big Stereo featured the new Florence & The Machine video for upcoming single ‘Drumming Song’

“Florence and the Machine is back with a new single from her Lungs album — sososo happy that “Drumming Song” got a video. Such an intense song… James Ford was a good match for her.”

The Rad Report pointed us in the direction of a free MP3 from indie rockers Dinosaur Pile Up

“A cat attack doesn’t seem like a very scary thing to me. I think I would be able to kick, throw, scratch and stomp my way out of a little kitty ambush. So for reason I don’t think I’m getting the metaphor in Dinosaur Pile-Up’s single ‘Cat Attack’.”

All great articles posted by some awesome blogs, check them out and let me know what you think.

Remember, if you find any good articles you think are worth sharing, let me know and I’ll post them in next weeks edition.
