Great news today for all indie music fans and bands alike. A new chart for both albums and singles is set to launch and should greatly benefiting bands on independent record labels.

The charts, which will be creatively titled the UK Independent Charts, will launch on June 29th for both albums and singles.

To qualify for the chart, bands will need to be signed to and release music through a label that is at least 50 per cent owned by an independent, non-major company.

In addition to the reshuffle there will also be a new chart called the Independent Breakers Chart. To qualify for the breakers charts, acts must have not scored a top 20 release in the UK charts.

I see this new setup for the indie charts can only be a good thing for everyone. Fans wanting to hear the best new indie music will have a constant update on the latest tracks. Upcoming bands will have another way to receive exposure for their music, which is always a good thing.

What do you think of the new charts? Will you be checking them out to find the next big band? Let Indiescreet know.
