Brand New: Muse – ‘Undisclosed Desires’

Check out this new Muse track which was previewed for the first time last night on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show.

Previous tracks from the bands upcoming album, ‘The Resistance’, which have been leaked have already been likened to Queen, Blondie and other artists. I doubt this track will be any different.

Think Depeche Mode, Spandau Ballet and those other late 70′s early 80′s new romantics and synthpop acts. The comparisons will no doubt flood in but I’m sure Muse won’t mind.

At the end of the day the sound was popular first time round, why can’t it be again to a new generation. I’ve never been Muse’s biggest fan but I think if anyone can pull it off Muse stand a pretty good chance.

‘Undisclosed Desires’ is a catchy song and if released as a single will no doubt get a bunch of airplay and stand a good chance of being Muse’s first number one single in the UK.

‘The Resistance’ is due out on Monday 14th September from all the usual spots.

What do you think of the track? A step in the right direction for Muse or a step backwards?

I was prepared to truly dislike this one. Muse sounding like Depeche Mode? – get out of here!

I’ve been a hardcore Muser since back in the day as I am an old codger (fancy that, over 30 and still listening to popular music; get me) and I obsess passionately over all of their output.

But, any band, even one we love must evolve and change. It’s cowardly and lazy not to. I can hear the wails now of “It’s not like PiB/Stockholm/[insert fan favourite here] but without taking a chance and trying different things they would not be Muse. Stagnation is an ugly thing.

So, in summary, I bloody love it. When they played it at Teignmouth last weekend (of course I was there, tsk) I was intrigued, entranced and pulled in.

    They are still “my” Muse.
