in Review Of The Week

There has been plenty going on in the world of music over the past week, here is Indiescreet’s roundup of the latest news.

You Ain’t No Picasso found this new Grizzly Bear track titled ‘Slow Life’

“Grizzly Bear and Victoria Legrand (of Beach House) have a new song coming out on the New Moon soundtrack that I’ve been dying to hear. Yesterday a kind commenter dropped word on YANP that they’d debuted it the night before in Chicago. So after a bit of youtubing and message-boarding, I found a clip that’s a minute and a half long. Now, I brought up my enthusiasm for Grizzly Bear to point out that some of you might not want to waste your time with a minute and a half of a new song, but those of you like me will be thrilled to know that it seems to be as fantastic as we’d hoped.”

Pitchfork have been posting their top 200 albums of the 2000′s, yesterday the top 20 were posted

“Today concludes our P2K coverage of the decade in music with… drumroll… the top 20 albums of the 2000s.”

I won’t spoil the countdown for you so head over to Pitchfork to see what their top album of the past 10 years is.

MintSouth posted the unfortunate news that Jamie T has cancelled 6 shows due to not recovering fully from laryngitis

“It’s with regret that Jamie T is to cancel the first 6 shows of his upcoming Kings & Queens tour.

The tour will now begin in Glasgow on October 9th.

The cancelled shows will be rescheduled at the earliest opportunity and original tickets will be valid. Refunds will be available from the point of purchase.”

Consequence Of Sound exclaimed that musicians have gone wild thanks to a certain lo-fi bout which took place recently

“It was quite the eventful weekend for some of our favorite artists, and not necessarily because of the music.

For one, Jared Swilley of the Black Lips and Nathan Williams of Wavves got into a fight outside a NYC venue over something one of the two, who knows which one!, wrote on the Internet, which ended up resulting in a punch in the face, some hilarious blog postings, lots of homophobic slurs, and a serious rolling of the eyes.

Yeah it’s pretty interesting, I need to check it out in more detail really.

I’m going to be contributing to a similar list over at ZME Music, (http://www.zmemusic.com) where I post infrequently, soon so keep an eye out for that.

Thanks for the heads up on the Pitchfork list. I’ll head on over there later and one thing I know for sure. I’ll get all frustrated and annoyed with their picks, but as one who loves these stupid lists I can’t resist a peek.
