Fucked Up - 'Do They Know It's Christmas'

For all you readers from the UK out there, sick of the X-Factor and all that money lining Simon Cowell’s pockets every Christmas? Well then you need to check out this brand new version of the 1984 charity classic ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ remade by Fucked Up and friends.

Fucked Up are a hardcore punk band from Toronto, Canada. The band recently won the Polaris Prize in Canada (the equivalent to the Mercury Music Prize) and vowed to use the prize money to create the remake.

That was back in September and here we are with a pretty impressive lineup on the charity single. There are vocal contributions from Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone, Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew, comedian David Cross, Yo La Tengo, Bob Mould, Tegan and Sara, GZA, Andrew W.K. and Bob Mould.

The single is avaliable to download right now from all the usual outlets, check out a preview of the track over at iTunes.

100% of the proceeds go to three different charities, they are Montreal’s Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Vancouver’s DTES Power of Women Group, and Ottawa’s Sisters in Spirit.

Good job Fucked Up, nice to see someone doing something charitable at this festive time.
