Ok so I know previews are usually meant to happen before albums come out but bear with me here.
Rather than a review of the whole ‘Album’ album I’m just going to preview a couple of songs if you’re unfamiliar with the work of one of the latest band to be hyped to the back teeth.
It seems, however, that for once the hype may be lived up to.
Girls influences seem to come from everywhere, artists that spring to mind include The Beach Boys, Buddy Holly and Elvis Costello.
Frontman Christopher Owens lived a pretty tragic childhood (see the first paragraph of Pitchfork’s review) which comes across in his lyrics and vocals.
Although on first listen tracks may sound positive and jolly, once you take a deeper listen to the lyrics there’s underlying sadness in a lot of whats said.
The tracks featured below, ‘Lust For Life’ and ‘Laura’ give a brief introduction to Girls compelling debut.
‘Album’ which is available to buy and download now, has already been tipped and reviewed very highly around the music scene by the likes of Pitchfork, NME, Rolling Stone and Drowned In Sound.
Check out this live version of ‘Lust For Life’ performed for Spin.
‘Laura’ will be Girls’ next single and will be released November 9th in the UK.

‘Lust For Life’ really is a great track, even if it’s totally not what you’d expect from the title.
I’ve currently got the album on repeat and just trying to take it all in before I post a review.
Like you, I’ve bought the album but only listened to it once. “Lust for Life” is one of my singles of the year.
Pitchfork’s review was well written IMO.
Looking forward to your full review
