[Video] The xx – ‘Islands’

New from The xx comes this clever, if not slightly confusing video to one of the best tracks from their debut album, ‘Islands’.

It’s all very conceptual and probably hints at a deeper meaning and message. I feel the video doesn’t fully work with the track, perhaps it’s because the track has been around a while and I’ve already got a visual image in my head when I hear it but it all feels a bit forced and comes across somewhat over the top compared to the track.

Don’t like the video either, there isn’t enough going on. The same dance routine over with only little changes. It’s not making me want to see it again.

im am totally and utterly in love with that song (and the whole xx album) so thats why im so disappointed to see such a boring music video. they could have done something amazing with it and yeah because its been around for so long, everyone really has an image of what the music video should be like and i dont think anyone was thinking of something like this.
the xx are a band that i really respect and i love what they do with their music but this music video is an insult to the music!

I totally agree with what both of you are saying, the video lacks the passion that the song emanates.

I like the video, actually it is the video that got me hooked to the song there is a meaning behind the video even though a bit sad…and the choreography is very well done…

what are you guys talking about? the videois amazing. It is so sad…a video and song about lovers and adulterers and passion and unrequited love, the most painful love…being left behind and alone with only the memory of that love in that one moment in time. this video is tragic and sad and grips to reality. It begs the question, what happens when love fades? And, will it always fade? I think it’s beautiful and tragic and speaks the truth. The harsh truth about love.
